We recently made the decision to change our name from Wheatley Playgroup to Wheatley Pre-School – mainly to keep up with the recent changes in Pre-School care, but also to better reflect the type of establishment we are and the activities we offer pre school age children.

Staff

All the members of staff have early year’s child-care qualifications or relevant experience, and enjoy working with young children. From time to time the members of staff are helped by a student gaining practical experience whilst studying for a child-care qualification. At each session there is a ratio of at least 1 adult to 8 children, although at present we have a ratio of 1 adult to 6 children. A list of staff is displayed in Pre-School.  All staff hold a relevant and up to date CRB.

The Key Person System

When your child starts at Pre-School, one member of staff will be assigned to him/her as a Key Person. This member of staff should remain the same throughout your child’s time with us. Your child’s Key Person could act as your first point of contact if you need to discuss any issues surrounding your child.  This key person will observe your child and plan for their individual needs.

Starting at Pre-School

Children may start on or after their 3rd birthday. We invite all children, with their parents or carers, to visit Pre-School before their first full session to acquaint themselves with their new surroundings. Parents/carers of new children are welcome to stay with their child as long as they like as we recognise settling in is a gradual process which differs from child to child.  We have invaluable experience at settling children into our Pre-School and work with yourselves to make this process as happy and easy for your child and you.

Fees

In line with government early years policy, children attending from the term after their 3rd birthday are entitled to a maximum of 15 hours per week, which is 6 free sessions per week, all we require is to see a copy of your child’s birth certificate.

We do offer places to children from their 3rd birthday, free of charge, up to a maximum of 6 sessions, anything over the 6 will be charged for.

Those who have to pay for any sessions (over 6 a week) should note that we operate a system of issuing invoices each half term, with a slightly higher rate charged if payment is delayed. Fees are still to be paid even if a child is absent due to illness or family holidays.

If you have difficulty regarding the payment of fees, please contact the treasurer or the supervisor, who will help in whatever way possible, and treat the matter in strict confidence.

Admissions Policy

Wheatley Pre-School looks after children aged 3-5 years. Children’s names can be put on the waiting list from birth. Places are allocated on a termly basis. All children who reach their 3rd birthday during a term will be given places in the order in which their names appear on the waiting list, not in order of age.

We often have a waiting list. When we are able to offer your child a place, you will receive notification in the half term prior to the starting date. If your need for a place changes, please advise us as soon as possible so we can make the appropriate adjustments. Failure to take up an allocated place without giving us notification may, at the discretion of the Committee, result in a charge.
