We recently made the decision to change our name from Wheatley Playgroup to Wheatley Pre-School –mainly to keep up with the recent changes in Pre-School care, but also to better reflect the type of establishment we are and the activities we offer pre school age children.
We are proud of our history – established in 1965 we are one of the longest running Pre-Schools in the country.
Wheatley Pre-School is a non-profit making organisation, registered and supervised by Oxfordshire County Council Social Services Department, in line with the Children’s Act 1989, and is a member of the Pre School Learning Alliance (PLA).
It is regularly inspected by the Office for Standards in Education (Click here to read the report) and follows the curriculum set out for the Foundation Stage Curriculum.
The Foundation Stage describes the period from birth to 5 years old.
Pre-School sessions
Pre-School is open for ten sessions each week as follows:
Monday – Friday 9.00 am – 11.45 am
Monday – Friday 1.00 pm – 3.30 pm
The Committee
The Wheatley Pre-School committee is responsible for the finances and the administration of the Pre-School. This includes the hiring of staff, the payment of wages and adherence to the standards and practices of Pre-School settings, as laid out by Social Services and in accordance with PLA guidelines. Parents are officially elected to positions on the committee at the Annual General Meeting, which is held each Spring. There are a variety of roles, all of which are essential to the smooth running of the Pre-School. You do not need to be a high-flying business person, but computer literacy and analytical skills are very useful, as well as lots of enthusiasm!
All parents are encouraged to attend committee meetings, and offer suggestions or voice concerns whenever they wish. The meetings are quite informal and are held each half term to discuss general affairs and organise fundraising events. It is a fun way to make new friends too. Any parents with practical skills are very welcome to let the staff & committee know – perhaps you can help fix our fence, check the roof, rake the bark in the playarea…… the list is endless and if we can save precious resources in these areas, we can spend more directly on the children!
On a more serious note, without the Committee, legally Pre-School cannot exist, AND AS PARENTS AND CARERS, YOU MAKE UP A HUGE NUMBER OF VITAL SUPPORTERS!
